Description
With Terminal Services in Windows Server 2008, organizations can provide more secure access to centralized applications or desktops (and other resources from the Internet) by using HTTPS—without needing to provide access via a Virtual Private Network (VPN) or opening up unwanted ports on firewalls.
This reduces the complexity needed to provide secure remote access to applications and data for users, partners, or customers. And for deployments with several servers, new load-balancing features provide a simple way to ensure optimal performance by spreading sessions among the least-loaded available resources.
Please note, Terminal Server CALs are NOT compatible with Microsoft Small Business Server. They require Windows Server Standard or Enterprise. Windows Server 2008 Terminal Server requires that you install a license server before the terminal server can function. A license server is a computer on which Terminal Server Licensing is installed.
These Terminal Server Device CALs permits 5 devices (used by any users) to conduct Windows Sessions on any of your servers.
Retail License Pack:
Retail License Packs do not include any installation discs. They are only designed for adding additional users/devices to an existing setup, or for use if you already have installation discs. They are commonly used in server environments to add additional users. Certain types of license packs do not include product keycodes, as they are designed to be used on the “honor system,” granting you a license to add additional users/devices to your system
